Left the house at 6.45 to get to Aer Arann air strip to get the half 10 plane over to Inishmaan for the weekend to do a bit of lure fishing for Pollock.Weather was very warm and sunny with little to no wind.Dropped off bags to the Airbnb and went to a ledge the opposite side of the island facing Inishmore. Was useing a ten foot spinning rod and a 4000 spinning reel loaded with 28lb braid and a 4 foot leader. The chosen lure was a Savage Gear V2 weedless sandeel.Fished for about a hour with a couple of Pollock about 45 cm long to show for it.Tryed a few different lures with no success so switched back to the Savage gear and a half hour later was rewarded with a nice Pollack of 4lb 14 oz.Quick weight and photo and straight back in he went. The next cast was into a nice fish that gave a nice fight that put a real bend in the rod and after a quick but enjoyable fight a very nice fish of 7lb 11oz was landed and returned to fight another day.Fished for another hour with only a few small Pollack to show for it so decided to head to the pub for a bite to eat and a few pints.Went to the pier near where I was staying about a hour before it got dark as this is always a good time to fish for Pollock.Fished off the back of the pier which reminded me of the end of the west pier in Dun Laoghaire fishing for Macs so was glad it was not windy. After about 15 mins caught a nice 48 cm Pollock. It was starting to get dark so was seeing Pollock on the surface. Was reeling in and just about to lift the lure out of the water below me when a Pollock smashed the lure,(a red and black shad).Took a good bit of line on a tight set drag.Managed to hand line it the pier wall without losing it.Quick pic and weight and a fine fish of 8lb 9oz was returned.Another nice fish of 58 cm long was caught a few casts later.Fished for another hour with only smaller Pollock hitting the lure and not getting hooked so decided to call it for the night.

Fished the pier at dawn and caught 3 Pollock to about 40 cm long.Went along the coast faceing Inishoirr and tryed there for a hour with about 4 Pollock to about 60 cm long. After that it went quite which I find is par the course with Pollack fishing.Fished the ledge faceing Inishmore again with 5 or 6 Pollock to about 60 cm.Again went quite after a while so went to the pub.

Had to get the plane home at 4 so decided to try a place that looked good on Google maps.Got to the place and there was no way I could get down without climbing gear. Was looking from the cliff top and really wanted to get down so decided to walk along a bit and see if it changed. As luck would have it a bit along the locals had tied ropes where the cliff face had been worn out and so it was easy to climb down and more importantly climb back up so was excited to fish this spot.Fished there for about 3 hours with about 6 Pollock caught with the best one been just under 60 cm and a slightly bigger one lost.Hard to judge how good this place could be on one visit but will definitely fish here the next time I’m on the island. It was time to get the plane back so packed up and went on my merry way with a smile on my face after a enjoyable weekends fishing.
Tight lines.
