Howth harbour LRF,

Fished Howth harbour today, not a place I’d usually bother with but I’d decided to do a bit of spinning for mackerel and a bit of wrasse bashing with the Lrf rod. No luck on the Macs but had dozens of fish on the lrf rod. Ballan and corkwing wrasse, pollock and surprisingly enough a topknot, which was a first for me. Was chuffed to be honest :D
The wrasse in the harbour are not the same stamp of fish you’d around the rock marks in Howth but the place is stuffed with them and I’d a bit of a head on me after Saturday night, no way I was hiking around Howth head :D
I also seen a big conger swim right under my feet in amongst the rocks,I’ll heading back up with to have a crack at him at some stage.

Amazing to see that topknot caught. I've been wanting to catch one for a while now, can I ask what you got it on?

Well done with the topknot, only ever seen them in aquaria and books. The harbour wrasse may not be huge but they still feel big on the lrf rod. Will definitely have to use my own lrf gear soon, got as far as loading it into the car last day out.

I was a bit dismissive of the LRF thing initially but I’m converted now. I’ve had some great craic with it this summer, a half decent wrasse or a good mackerel on an lrf rod is a buzz. One thing I’ve released is Ive been casting over some good fish for years :D

Great result on the topknot - looks big enough too - looks over 20 cm - possibly 30
usually very small
never seen one in the flesh - thanks for posting
