North Dublin Conger 22.07.2021

Fri Jul 23, 2021 12:35 am

When: 22/07/2021
Where: North Dublin
Who: Myself
Duration: 20:00-00:00
High Water: 22:52
Equipment: 13ft surf rod using pennel pulley rig (3/0 specimen X & 1/0 chinu) & 11ft bass rod with 1 up 1 down paternoster rig (size 4 b940s with popup floating beads).
My Bait: Ragworm, Squid.
Conditions: Hot, Humid, Foggy, Hazy Sun, Full Moon
Result: 1 Tope, 1 Smooth Hound, 1 Conger Eel

After a good session yesterday I had to go back to the same spot again tonight, and it paid off, got a slightly bigger tope pup than last nights, a small smooth hound, and my first proper conger eel as I was about to pack up! All fish took the squid on the pennel!

I took the eel home for tomorrow nights dinner, going to part boil, skin and then marinade it in an eel sauce then I will fry it in a tempura batter with panko breadcrumbs, so hopefully it'll be nice :D

Class! You'll have to start getting a proper tope bait out along with the rest now.

Had the conger this evening, now I didn't bother with the marinade, just boiled it for a few minutes, removed the skin, cut it into small pieces, battered with tempura & panko breadcrumbs then pan fried. I would say that it didn't taste bad, more just bland so I probably won't be eating it again any time soon

I went back there tonight 22:00-01:00 with some fresh caught mackerel off the boat during the day to see if I could tempt a proper tope. I made a shamrock tope rig into a pulley rig and threw out a flapper, though it didn't cast very far :? so next cast I just did a tail cone which did cast a bit better but at the end of the day nothing took the bait in 3 hours fishing.. Might try there off the boat some time maybe that'll work

Oh and since it was just a blank I just did a short report on my website only: https://lambayfishing.ie/full_report.ht ... type=shore
