North Dublin Beach 22.04.2021

Equipment: 13ft bass rod with 3 hook flapper with B940 size 4 hooks, and 15ft surf rod same rig.
My Bait: Peeler crab
Conditions: Sunny with a cold breeze, small surf.
Result: 1 flounder

Fished really close in right under the rod tip and was getting way more bites than I normally do normal, the first few bites I was a bit too eager lifting the rod too soon and not hooking up so after that I just let the bites develop and only lifting the rod with a proper positive bite. Eventually I managed a small flounder but the bites died off shortly after.

I've been told plain snoods with no bling works better for the bass from the beaches.

I've been meaning to tie a few new rigs actually, was thinking to get some twisted boom arms to keep from tangling as well, would you reckon the snoods should be short or leggy for bass?

if you were fishing under the rodtip your hooklenghts where probably getting rolled around a lot and tangling back on themselves. you can fish all hooks above the lead, shorten the hooklenghts, up the breaking strain or use fluoro- all help.
wire booms will prevent tangling especially if you are fishing into a washing machine. hooklenght needs to be shorter than the boom. the wire kills movement and can help get fish when the seas are turbulent. having said that a lot of fish respond to movement in a number of situations so the booms could cost you fish. i would never set out to target bass with wire booms(dosent mean you wont catch one using them though!).
most of the bass i have caught on north dublin beaches have been on the top hooklenght time and time again. 30" 15lb. amnesia size 4 kamasan. if the sea is really heavy i would use trilene fluorocarbon in 15lb. or even 20lb. amnesia and drop the hooklenght to 2' or even 18". i would rarely go shorter for bass. i might up the size of the hooks to 2's or 1's.
wire booms for flats in close in the wash is always worth a shot and can work quite well. make some up and try them.

Generally bass fishing from the beaches is best with a bit of surf or rough seas, I usually go for 2 snoods above the weight around 40 cms in length in choppy waters or a single snood above the weight 60 cms long and clipped to the weight in calmer weather.

Was out again today, different North Dublin beach, one that is known as a decent bass mark, tied a couple of leggy rigs with plain snoods as recommended, using peeler again but the weed was awful and I got no bites I'll keep at it though, I'm going to put it a lot of hours on this beach this year and hopefully I'll soon have another bass
