Local at lockdown 0620 to 0121

With the peer pressure building with others putting up reports - its well time i got the finger out
heres a load of reports mushed together, basically because most of the time nothing happens!

The mantra on the inner bay in Galway is its rubbish - wrack and weed and boulders - shallow waters - pollution and a carpet of crabs
Still what are you going to do - restricted travel meant places I would never go near had to be tried out
This channel is just over 10 k to the door and i started spinning on it in june and july - got a mackeral and small sea trout
My mate had a 3-4lb on but it got off just at the waters edge - nothing amazing, but fishing close by
I was amazed at how shallow it all was and the channel itself is only 15 m wide on the low of a spring

Restrictions started again and i went back again with bait fishing in mind in October in darkness
The blanks soon followed - one rod small hooks one with larger hooks and big baits
Into November and a flurry of pin whiting broke it up - surely something must come in feeding on these?
the ground clean in the middle - has flounder written all over it - but none

December even the whiting were gone - crab feeding at its best - time to forget the 3/0 - size 1s are now big!
Jan and first session of new year a 19 cm flounder - not to be sniffed at

2nd session and after 3 hours of nothing thoughts of a new venue being chewed on - i saw my rod bounce - sure enough the snood snipped and my half sandeel gone
pesky crabs?
one more cast for the road
and within 5 mins the rod tip went and again and again - this is no crab
happy out after a few minutes with a spotty in the shallows

Theres hope in this spot yet - wonder would the spikey fellas have a look in the spring...
i suppose the spot is now a bit more viable and sure isint it a handy spin from the door

Is this mark at the narrow mouth of a bigger tidal inner bay / inlet?
Nice trout!

Ok, well the way u describe it then, imho, the best time to fish it is usually as the tide slows and turns at the bottom, and maybe an hour either side of this. The fish that have ventured into the bay to feed with on the tide can now be found at the mouth in the shallows at this time. It can be the best time to get seatrout and a popular method can be dead drifting Sandeel. But bass seem to move in and out only when there’s more water up - fish the margins for them when there’s more water as they seems to hug the contour edges. Around high tide might be the best time for bass, again with drifted sandeel, or maybe crab.
Just a thought

What does 0620 to 0121 mean?

sharp as ever paddy

thanks for the advice chuckaroo - i have fished the edges a fair bit following my successes in the past down in estuaries in wexford - but the same rules dont seem to apply in this channel
it would be a real turn up for the books to get a bass in there

Great fishing,, the trout is lovely,, looks not unlike a slob trout with the dark markings or could just be the pic,, great either way,, brilliant to get fish at Marks near home

Two weeks later connected with another - shorter but much healthier fish - on release he tail walked for about 50 m - never seen anything like it

for the experts here is this lad more a slob trout than a sea trout - thanks

Very enjoyable reports. Absolutely beautiful trouts. I've been talking to lots of anglers over the past few months, there seems to be plenty of sea trout around, even freshwater anglers are getting sea trout well up river, one even caught as far up as the botanic gardens in Glasnevin, a good distance from the Tolka estuary.
Congrats on the fish and thanks for the report
