Dun Laoghaire East Pier 01/12/20

Postby Dave F » Tue Dec 01, 2020 9:44 pm

Had to be in Dublin today and had time to kill so threw the spinning rod in the car and got a few hours in chasing whatever was on the go. Thought there might be some coalies on the go at this stage. Was throwing jigs from 28 to 40g and had a good few pollack to about 2.5lb and one tiny mackerel that looked like it had been more than half chomped by something else recently. Tide was on the drop and as it went on, tackle losses stopped being acceptable. Was fishing 30lb braid with a 25lb fluoro leader and still lost a lot of jigs and bent more hooks. Still, good fun on a crime of opportunity session, and nice to see pollack this late in the year!

Fair play that's a good sized pollack. It's a tackle hungry spot

Nice Dave great way to spend a few hours. Was considering bait fishing off the east pier ended going to killiney instead. Did you fish off the end of the pier or where. I was thinking off the last elbow over the wall. Looks like it's 10m deep off there.

I fished along the stretch from the back of the bandstand down to nearly the next bend. I don't know it well enough but if further is deeper I'd be confident it will turn up better fish. Was a 14 second count down with 30g lures where I was anyway. Very tackle hungry though. I'd imagine there would be codling and conger there fishing bait with pulley rigs. Any luck in Killiney?

Download the app c-map. Gives depths and stuff pretty handy.. killiney was flat calm like glass so we targeted whiting and got a few nice ones, one keeper and a few dab 2 keepers. If there as a bit of a chop I think it would have been brilliant. I'm gonna try the rocks off the back off bullock harbour this week I have high hopes for it. I ky downfall it will be low tide
