Bait. I used up the last of my peeler from the freezer. And also a couple of mackerel.
Conditions. Small easterly winds with a rising tide. It got very rough towards the end of the session.
Result. I had 2 smooth hounds of around the same size I didn’t weigh them but I estimate 5-7lbs.
Decided to head down to the local enough mark in the evening after having a very poor mackerel session that morning with 5 hours producing 3 Joey mackerel. I got there at low water sticking out a couple of mackerel baits for the first 2 hours. There was Plenty of small knocks on the rod and a few bog bites with nothing hooking up unfortunately. After 2 hours I decided to put a crab bait on. On the first cast with crab I had a nice big slack line bite with the fish swimming towards me for the first couple of yards thinking I was going to lose the fish I tightened up the line and lifted in after a couple of minutes and a great fight I got the fish in it was nicely lip hooked with plenty of head shakes. It went very quiet after that for the next 2 hours then after dark around 10pm I got the second bite on the crab again a nice little fight and landed a nice fish. Around 10:30pm with the waves crashing up and soaking me I decided it was time to go home. It was nice to get down and get a few fish in on a day off work.
