When : 23rd Aug 2020
Where : Kildsart, Clare
Duration: arrived bit after 7pm left round 12/1 ish maybe
High Water: around 10pm
Equipment: 12ft ron thompson, penn 8000 something
Bait/Lures: single hook rig, 3/0 hook with mackeral and squid
Conditions: Mostly calm, current was strong when we arrived but eased around the high, and then back to strong before we left
Result: a crab, conger and thornback ray
Was down at Kildysart there on Sunday last with friends, similar set ups on the 3 rods all using same baits. The currents were strong when we got there, kind of the usual for the spot. but getting close to the high it eased a bit. One of my friends managed to nab his first conger, so happy out with that, was a nice size too. made a bit of a mess of the rig but happens us all

After the high, had a bit of a fright when my rod went from its resting spot, had to jump and grab it. First thought was a massive tangle of weeds and was a tough enough to reel back in with the rod level, but could pull the rod up and it eased a bit, still heavy but still thinking ive a nice patch of weed coming in, wasnt until my friend helps to lift it from the water and he said its a ray! no wonder I had gone red in the face!

another first, was my first time catching a ray, was around 4.6 kg.
