People: Myself and Philip Fox
Duration: 4 Hours
Tide: Last hour of the ebb first three hours of the flood
Weather: Force 5-6 NE – but we had shelter in Dingle Bay
Bait: Sandeel/Macko
Rigs: Pennell Traces, 1 Below the lead
Results: 5 Thornbacks, 3 Dogs & 1 Flounder
Report: After towing the boat to Brandon it was clear that we would not get out as planned so we put our back up plan into motion to fish a few shore venues that we knew would have shelter from the Strong NE winds and hopefully put us onto some spring Thornbacks. We decided to Fish the Spit below the Dingle Lighthouse, here we knew it would have good shelter and the channel is about 110 yards out so a 90 yard cast onto the slope of the channel should put us on a few Thornies and luckily enough it did.
Phil Fox baits up at low water…

what kind of size did you guys get them to rob?
Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:27 pm
Not huge fish by any standards up to six pounds but one thing we did note were all of them were spent, obviously because of the time of year.

Dont know where that rumour came from Rob? they said the same at this time last year as well, he looked in fine fettle when we were down trying the boat the other week, never seen him leaping about as much, he leapt completly out right at the side of the boat  not really what i was looking for trying the boat for the first time.
Sean,

No it's true Sean, apparently the week before we were there some lunatic was doing 30knots in a 165 burning around the area and scared the bejasus out of him, he has not been right since

I remember the place well. Lovely pics. Put some baits out first day out there on the opposite side of the bay. That was Beginning of September and got nowt. Fished all up that side as well to the lighthouse and got none. We were told it was the result of the red tide. Debating whether to travel back this year. Last day my mate got one off the stone breakwater in the harbour about 7lb. I was already in the John Ben Moriarty by this time.
Is it worth coming for another shot? Would look forward to another weekend in Tralee with lovely weather.

Yeah a lot of the Dingle side was badly affected by the Red tide last year but I think its recovered at this stage, though Sean P could probably answer that better than me. Its never let us down under the right conditions always throws up a few fish!!
