Report: Worthwhile visit Portnoo

We had great sport for two or three sessions from the rocks to the west of Portnoo Pier . The rag was dug locally from the mud flats beside the road from Glenties. Fishing the rag on a two hook rig it produced many 1 - 2lb ballan wrasse from the right hand side of the rocks over what seemed to be a submerged rock platform using light float tackle. The kids took two very good sized pollack 2 - 3lb about 20 meters straight out from the rocks fishing jelly worms. Others were fishing the rocks, one boy was taking the odd mackerel which a local mink stole from his bag . A great mark was able to watch the Dolphins in the bay :)

There must be many other marks around the coast here a footpath leads to the headland with plenty of rocky coves.

Has anyone been sucessful from Narin beach ?

Its in Donegal Kev, west of Ardara/Glenties. Beautiful spot, lovely sandy beach. If you want craic too visit on St. Johns weekend (around midsummers day), there's a "seafood" festival (an excuse for drinking and partying on the beach, loads of bands, etc). Never saw any seafood myself.... :wink:

what other fish do u catch up around that neck of the woods

Salmon and seatrout, and flounder. If I'm right, I think the lads were fishing towards the mouth of the river? Fished there a few times several years ago, there are tonnes of wrasse literally under your feet.

you can also get strap conger from the rocks there have witnessed this in the past they werent big but im sure there are some good ones tipping about.....will get whiting and glassan in season but pollock and wrasse are the main targets in this area.....
