Shannon estuary Clare side

Postby Woulfec » Fri Nov 16, 2018 12:24 pm

2 hrs before LW and hour after
4/0 kamasan 50 lb Pulley Pennels with 30lb hook length
Sandeel and squid

Arrived and first cssf after 2 mins into a doggie. Constant bites for two hours mostly doggies but one massive bite missed it so not sure what it was I was sickened. But looked like a bass bite but don't think they would be at the spot.

Load more dog bites then got a ray after dark. He was only small 2 to 3 lbs I'd imagine. Happy all the same.

Another bite when it was dead weight on the line. When went two pull as I put pressure on the hook line snapped(30lb) very clean break like it was cut with scissors. Was this a big ray stuck to the bottom and nicked the line with his mouth? Should I be using 50lb to the hook length?

All in all mayb 10 doggies and a thornback.

Unbelievable night fishing was delighted.

Back again this eve

Also like to thank everyone that has givi g me advice. Really sound.

Any help be great

Nice up your snoods to 40lb as they can take a hampering you can also make a straight through pulley with 60lb to 80lb shock

Went back same setup and same tide. 7 dogs 1conger and 1 banging bite(didn't hook it yet again, sickened). The wind picked up today and was coming into my face so mightnt have helped.
The 40lb snoods worked perfect. Great job, thanks.

Any preference with hook makes? I used 4/0 up tides..

Fished it again last night same setup but high tide 2 small congers 4 doggies. Hooked every fish though. My baits were too thick before, not shinny and long.

No big bites.

Cheers

Bait presentation and bait quality is key to successful angling. You want your bait to be streamlined and neatly wrapped on your hooks with your hook points standing proud to aid in hook ups with every bite you get
What you don’t want is A big sloppy bait that will mask your hook points and come flying off mid cast or cut down casting distance.

Those baits are serious. Bait porn lol! thanks for the tip these are great things I need to know. I'll get the misses to start making them skinnier so! Haha

I had one bite the last night.. Could havd been nothing, but the bite was really really slow, putting tension gradully on the line (maybe for 5 mins) and there was no thug what so ever just graduall tension. I thought it was weed and recalled it in without striking but when I got it in the bait was defeinetly malled by something. Any suggestions on what it was? Crabs maybe?(seemed like too much tension for crabs)
Cheers

Defo sounds like a ray bite normally they can pull your tip down and hold it there for a few min and then it will go slack or the ray will take off and your rod will go by by if your drag is not set to let out line
