Wicklow 24/6/17

Postby Al » Tue Jun 27, 2017 12:17 pm

Fished a Wicklow beach with a friend on Saturday from 5pm to midnight
Sea looked good with a westerly flattening it out and wind behind which was good for casting :) All I needed was the fish to play ball, was hoping to get smoothies and spotted ray which can be caught off this beach.
Wil had a smoothie of 4lb in close on his first cast with ragworm, It was quiet enough after that with just a few small flats and gurnard caught.
At about 9:30 I had a smoothie at distance on crab weighed in just under 6lb & I had a male spotted Ray next cast...fishing was busy from then on and a few more smoothies from pups up to about 4lb , doggies, flats and baby tope were caught. Happy enough with the session, haven't done a lot of fishing the last few years. Hopefully will get out a bit more this summer.#

Bait was frozen crab, rag, mac and sand eel

Sounds like a nice session with a good mix of species, particularly the ray,

Yeah it was a good session to get back into it :)
Weed wasn't too bad but was there was like bait elastic and a pain to get off the line.

Ah Christo good to hear form you. That was my only session of the year so far unfortunately.
Didn't realise you were in Sligo, haven't been down to mark yet this year but I'd be up for a trip to Sligo with him anyway, would love a bit of rock fishing ;)

Thanks Zeke, Glad you got your first smoothie :) sounds like a busy session fair play. Smoothies seem to be slow off the ground this year, I think I was lucky to get a few decent ones...I must stick up the pics if I remember.
