buncranna pier

Postby basilrabbit » Wed Nov 02, 2016 9:37 pm

Got fed up waiting for hospital appointment time, low water was at a good time ie 1230 , the pier fishes best on a rising tide , got some mackerel fillets from lidl and went fishing.
Fishing slow first 2 hours then a good rattling bite and a mackerel was landed much to my surprise a bit late for this neck of woods, next came 6 Pollock/coalies all about 30 cm plenty of pin whiting 4 nice size flounder .
At 1715 decided to call it a day, bait all gone( pin whiting ate most of it ), and the rain was getting worse. In all a nice day.

Good to see you out and about, did you use the fresh mackerel for bait or stick with the Lidl stuff, I've heard a few people comment that it isn't great as bait? After catching a mackerel you must have been hoping for a Ray?

Hi yes Lidl mackerel not the best need plenty of knicker elastic to keep it in place.its hard to get fresh mac down here, normally have plenty of salt mack which i find works very well for rays . was only using light gear two 12 feet carp rods with light braid best bit indicators .only use the beachrods when after rays, conger at lenan pier.

I find the lidl stuff ok....I just wrap it with elastic to make it into a sausage shape then put it on the hook like a worm.....works a treat for the ray
sure, its not raining between the showers!
