Wexford 3-5/april

Quick report on a few days away with a little fishing.

Hit my usual haunt for a few hrs each day, fishing into darkness on a dropping tide.

Same suspects out and about, whiting, dab, flounder and doggies, (pollock)

I did hit a few small fish similar to whiting but with much squarer heads and much bigger eyes - kind of reminded me of a pollock but would be exceptionally rare where I was. they were also more silvery. Anyway probably whiting - I had a few drinks. (edit: After a little research im surprised to announce I caught my first pollock - dorsal is a dead give-away)

On that note I decided at the time to fish much closer to a river which enters the sea, which was the only change from my normal habit - I was casting just to the edge of the freshwater where the 2 meet. I can only assume this is why the pollock were about the area - There are some rocks close by where I never fish at all - Now I have a new mission to see if there is any sort of substantial pollock population in the area.

No weed to speak of at all thank god. Weather was good and the rain stayed away for most of it.

No Ben this time either - im pretty sure he is fed up coming with me - Time to introduce my lunatic Gordon setter to the beach - doubt I'll get much fishing done with her about but im sure she will enjoy it. Expect my next report to be on how I spent the night looking for her!!

Are you sure they were not coalfish?
Juvenile pollock tend to be mottled brown/reddish brown rather than silver. There seems to be a lot of very small coalfish along the south coast at the moment.
