fished kilmore quay yesterday 3 of us had over 200 big mackerel some going over 1.5lb they where like mini tuna.we had to compete with about 40 porpoises who where rounding them up as well.bait sorted for winter.also nice cod to 4lb/ling to 5lb and huge pouting some approaching specy weight and plenty of wrasse.happy days.
common sense not very common

Loads of Mackerel in Dun laoghaire, best at low tide on the east harbour.

Headed out to Dun Laoghaire pier yesterday with high hopes and a low tide.
Not a bite...must have been doing something wrong.
Worked my way around the sea-ward side of the East Pier, very snaggy...went through 3 lines of feathers.

On my way back I ran into a few auld lads having a few cans and fishing with floats.
They were catching a few but they were no bigger than my index finger.
They didn't seem to mind though...they were having the craic either way.

I'm used to fishing around Howth and always had good luck.
Now a Southsider so looking for a decent mark closer to home.

Would anyone recommend another spot to try?
Coliemore/Bullock harbour maybe?

Any mackerel showing up in Kerry?, the freezer is in a sorry state, looks like it will be wads of cash spend on the blast frozen stuff for me to get through the winter.
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

Culloo rock can produce mackerel up until December.
Remember if you do hit a mackerel don't be in a rush to reel it in. Keep the tension on the tip of the rod and reel very slowly. Doing this will often draw more mackerel to the feathers.
