Fished the last few hours of the coming tide yesterday evening from 6 oclock until 8.30pm. The weed on this beach is nearly ever present making it a difficult spot to fish. I've fished here before on a few occasions but always closer to the mouth of the river. A feature I hadn't fished is the deep trough that rip current has cut out directly out from the car park. So decided on giving the right hand side of the beach a go a, once the surfers had headed home after dark (Its a very popular surf beach).
I set up just out from the car park, once the surfers hadI fished one rod at distance and one 20-30 yards out, there's quite a deep trough on this beach from the strong rip. Condition were great no wind, mild temperatures (in comparison to my last few night sessions), and a lovely surf.
Within 20 minutes, got a lovely rattle and struck into the fish. He was fighting hard, I assumed it must be a nice sea trout given then location, but he came off about 30 yards from the shore .
Not good.
Things were slow for the rest of the session other than dealing with the horrendous amount of kelp rods, Up until the last half hour in which time I caught , 2 20 cm coalies and 15cm flounder on close in set up and on mackeral strips. Blank saved at least
