Wexford beach 22/11/15

Postby krisreid » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:53 pm

Who: joebrady88 & I.
Bait: crab, black wraps, squid and mack.
Time: 3pm to 8pm (Tide at approx 5)
Rigs: 3/0 pulley pennels and 3 hook flappers 1/0.

Hit Wexico for an evening session. We've been hitting the jackpot here lately and the thoughts of a winter cod makes the drive down easy!

Arrived - not a breath of wind and the weather was stunning. Set up with 5oz weight and cast away. The nightmare began. WEED. And endless amounts of it. Saying that, the first cast produced a small plaice - obviously the fish were there. A decision was made to stay as it was going to get dark and not much point in moving.

A couple of big bites but no hookups. The weed was relentless - we couldn't hold bottom. As I reeled in at one point I felt a little niggle. A decent plaice - definite pb for me. Didn't weigh as swallowed the hook and Joe was taking care to get it back safe.

Overall it was pretty much a disaster but the stunning evening made up for it. 3 plaice between us

Cheers
Kris

Tough luck with the weed, I hate that. Are you sure that isn't a flounder? Nice pics by the way.

Saying that, the spots weren't very prominent.

Nice results considering the weed. It's a flounder Kris. Without getting into the science of it I always look at the area directly behind the head and also the ridged fins surrounding the fish, plaice have prominent orange spots on their outer ridged find and have horns just behind be the head. Good going though, fairplay
