Glenarm Breakwater 12/02/06

Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:19 pm

People:Me and 5 others

Duration: 19.00 - 23.00

Tide:HT 23.30

Weather: Calm and mild (8'c)

Bait: Mack and rag

Rigs: 2 hook clip down and a pulley pennel

Results: 1 Codling, 1 Chinese fish

Report: I haven't fished the breakwater in a while so I decided to give it a bash last night - there were a few guys already there when I arrived (hi to Biker Al & Aidy). The night started off well with a larger than average Chinese Fish (whi-ting) and a small codlng, the other guys landed a few decent coalie and a dogfish at the same time so our hopes were high (for at least half an hour   ).

A few other lads joined us but things went very quiet for the next hour or so. Things picked up as the tide begain to push and the fish started to appear again (at least not on my line ).

Hopefully things are beginning to pick up again.

Forgot to mention - there was a pouting of around 1 -1.5lb taken near 23.00 as I was packing my gear. Most anglers don't like these fish but it was good to see.

How do i get to glenarm breakwater from belfast always a place ive been wanting to try???

Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:33 pm

its dead easy

head for larne
go through larne along the coast road following signs for Glenarm

as you come into glenarm itself you come round a sweeping left hand bend with a huge cliff to your left.

as you round the bend the Breakwater is on the right the dis-used quarry is facing it

Thompo is spot on with the directions.

Plonk yourself between the two blue lamposts at the top of the pontoon ramp. Cast straight out or to the left (right side is very rocky) and hope for the best.

only close in and to the right as gavin said left and straight out are all clean

It can be at times but I fished with the same two rigs last night and only lost one hook

A few tips for this mark -

- retrieve fast and keep rod high as possible
- dont stop winding when you retrieve
- stay out of the right side if located between the lamposts
- wear trainers or shoes with good grip (in case you have to clamber over the rocks to retrieve rigs or fish)
- there is a lovely chip van round at the car park beside the beach and a second one facing the primary school

Enjoy.
