I decided on a quick session in Rosslare to roadtest my new rod and reel. The strong westerly wind didnt really afford too many other options within easy reach so off to Wexford it was.I picked up some bait at short notice from Colm in The Widgeons Rest tackle shop in Rosslare and hit the beach. Under the shelter of the bank at "the cannons" it was really quite pleasant. I was even hopeful of a smoothhound (or being greedy perhaps two).
Unfortunately the only hounds to be had were dogs which appeared cast after cast until the weed prompted my retirement. Interestingly there was an awful lot of activity in and on the water to my right which is unfishable from the shore... I may investigate afloat if I have the time in the coming weeks.
I somewhat attribute my catch to the rigs I was using as well. I had a load of two hook, short snood flappers left over from a comp in Hook Head and was using them out of laziness. I've found that hounds generally seem to prefer a longer snood that flows a bit. As do flats, both of which were noticeably absent.
