Quick Rock Session -Cork

Was off work today so decided to get in a quick rock session for maybe a pollock or a wrasse. Beautiful sunny day as the pics show.

Had a new lure rod to try out, pretty happy with it thus far. The only thing that plagued me all day was knots giving way. After pulling out of a snag, I had to retie my leader. I tied my normal completely dependable improved albright knot but when I went to cast lure and leader went skywards but no line. Twice more this happened and I was taking so much care with the knots you'd swear I was on YouTube .

Finally tied on a leader that stayed put. I had just switched to a silver and blue metal lure when a got a good rattle that felt like a mackerel - was quite surprised to pull in a launce. An odd one to christen the new rod.

If it were a different time of year I would have been throwing him back underneath a float in search of a bass but he got lucky and was sent back unharmed. Two more followed in quick succession.

At that point my time was up so I went for the last cast. Leader and spinner gone again. I knew it was time for home then!

It's odd though I've been using the improved albright for a couple of years and it's been absolutely perfect I don't know what could be different

Nice day for it anyway.

What's the new rod? Looks tasty!!

Have you changed braid or fluro?
For that knot are you putting the tag end that you've wrapped around through the loop the same way as the start? Does that make sense???

It's a Grauvell Teknos Gold Spin 802 ML 10-40 g. Yeah it looks nice the gold trim is snazzy enough. Nice fast action I'd say it would be nice for working surface lures. Because of rocks directly behind me I couldn't properly see how well it casts

That's the funny thing it's the same spool of braid I've had on since the start of the season, same type of flouro too.

So the knot I was using was through the loop in the flouro seven turns up seven turns back and then the tag end of the braid is passed back through the loop the opposite way to the way it came in

Grauvell make nice rods. I've had a Gold Spin Specialist (broke it though) and a trusty Teklon. Loved that rod, shouldn't have sold it!!

I always pass that tag through the loop the SAME way as first. You've me thinking if I'm doing it wrong now!!

I also double the braid so I'm wrapping a loop of braid around the fluro.

to finish the knot you go back out through the eye of the mono the same way you came in

Sorry , I didn't explain it correctly - I tie the knot exactly as below

It seems that the modified albright can also be called the alberto knot
