3/5/15 Wexford

Location. Castletown/Kilgorman Wexford (kilmuckridge)
Bait. Rag, mackeral and mussel
High tide. bout 7:30
Duration. 20.00-10:30 (0100 - 2:30)
Rig. 2 x clipped down 2/0
People. Me and the dog!

Rigged my first rod and cast out with the above welded together with elastic - was rigging rod numero 2 and pulled it off the tripod - no biggie right.....

Cast out rod 2 - bottle of water to rinse off the sand on the reel - not hits on either after 25mins, take in rod one and sort and recast - take in rod 2 and crrrraannnnkkk! s***!

Carefully take reel apart and rinse inside and out - replace and.... snap - I break the handle.

At this point im getting very wet - weather went from "its a lovely day to hit the beach" to "I am a total idiot for being out in this"

Frustration setting in and a broken reel - I wind in rod 2 by hand. Took me 20 bloody mins!!!

Finally get rig back so I rob my line back off the reel and firmly place reel in bin!

The dog looks like hes been washed ashore at this stage so I curse my luck and pack up.

Im no sooner in the car the wind and rain stop and calmness takes over and the full moon lights up the east coast. Not a cloud in sight!!

I'm driving home, i'm sad, wet, dishevelled and the dog is disgusted I brought him with me, and suddenly - I get a 2nd wind, pick myself up and head for kilmuckrige. It's ON - ON like Donky Kong!!

Joe from Ctown Angling had told me where to head to but had never been there and was coming from a strange direction so it took me 2hrs for a 1/2 hr trip but eventually got there.
Walked down the beach, it's about 1am now, 5 others fishing, slow night but bass are in the water apparently so I mussell and rag up and fire out my line.

Stayed fishing till 2:30 and never got a sniff - ha.

This night was simply not meant to be, but I didnt give up thats the main thing!!! Right???

Heading home my satnav loses signal and i only have my "fishing phone" with me so I'm just in the door - its 25 to 5!

Best forgotten.

And both beaches were weedy!!

It's nights like that, that make ya appreciate the good sessions all the more.
Fishing is a passion not a pass time. Fair play to ya.

Some days it's just not meant to be. Few weeks ago was out lure fishing with my backup lure rod a telescopic one. Into a snag trying to pull free. I should have pulled for a break but was trying to muscle out of it - CRRACK - rod snaps in two at the butt.

Trek back to the car for my regular rod. Not down five minutes but am caught off balance by a wave in a 2-3 feet of water. Fall face first into the water. Hand gets reefed off of a rock opens up a big cut. Absolutely drownded wet inside my waders. Fished on for a while but abandoned soon after. And of course I blanked.

Some days you should just stay at home!
