East Coast 28/3/15

Took a trip down to Louth today to blow the cobwebs off my lately under-utilised beach gear. This mark produces good numbers of (usually above averaged sized) flounders in most conditions. With that West wind at my back, I thought it the best option comfort-wise.

Set up 2 rods in close, both on straight lug, long, flowing traces. Had a bite within 10 seconds of putting the 1st rod down on the tripod.

A reasonably steady stream of flounders followed for me for the next c3 hrs though size was smaller with my biggest I think 29cm. As seems to be standard practice these days (scratching anyway), I was pretty well outdone by the BiL who had several 30 odds, up to 35. I think the bags finished 14-8 to him after my 2-0 lead was pegged back. A solitary pin-slugling added to my haul of flounder on the last cast.

Great to be back out and a decent sesh for this ToY. Nice motivation for the big boys' fishing that's hopefully just around the corner once again.

Nice going. Was over that direction myself last week, had a couple of flats and seen a few sea trout. The big boys can't be too far behind.

Good report mate. I wish i got more enjoyment from fishing for flats. I'd say on lighter gear, they would be great craic in close
