Are there any reports of mackerel in Dunmore East or anywhere in the Waterford area?

1 mack from greystones tonight, kilty at distance. Really very poor sad to say. There are just not many fish about anymore.

Seen some guys taking hundreds of them, all tiny. I can't understand how anybody can take small fish, and nobody could possibly need so much. The greed was sickening me, I had to leave. They were also littering so much it was just obscene

The waste is tragic. Mackerel do not survive after being man-handled, see :
http://www.sacn.org.uk/Articles/Releasing_Mackerel.htmlPeople should just take what they need, then stop fishing for them, same if only tiny Joeys are around.

Howth pier today, had a few really big mackerel on the float, up to 51cm and very thick. Great fun on light tackle
fishing at low water, beside the lighthouse.

No pics unfortunately
wish I had taken some, but was afraid I lose my phone between the rocks. Watched my knife slide away into the rocks when I was baiting the hook and decided against taking the phone out when I was there. Should have took a photo when I measured them at home, but felt a bit silly to be photographing mackerel. Upon reflection, I should have taken a photo, best mackerel I've ever caught. Was even stripping line off the reel, thought it was a bass LOL

Any reports of shore mackerel in the Slade, Hook Head area and also in Dunmore East?

51cm has to be a specimen, that's enormous.

Have to say I was laughing when I landed it, it was a ridiculous size for a mackerel (a girl on the pier asked if it was a sea bass , she looked a bit funny when she heard it was a mack) really made the return to fishing worthwhile. I must get an official measure and scales and keep them in my bag, start properly recording and photographing anything I catch

51 cms wow!!...."Male and female Atlantic mackerel grow at about the same rate, reaching a maximum age of about 20 years and a maximum fork length of about 47 centimetres (19 in). Most Atlantic mackerel are sexually mature by the age of three years." YOU ARE THE SHORE CAUGHT RECORD HOLDER CONGRATULATIONS!!
