Report: After suffering a dreaded blank last Sunday on the pier, I decided to try the south beach this week for change. As usual Fishface got there as least an hour and a half before me in order to gain some sort of advantage over me but for once his well laid plans came unstuck

. I started fishing at the bottom of the tide and with the steeply shelving banks here it was heavy going walking back up after casting out. I fished two rods,,,a pulley with crab at distance and a 2 hook flapper baited with lug tipped with mack lobbed out 30 yds or thereabouts. Unlike last week there was no weed about and no rain,,,happy days.First fish came on my second cast, nice little Dab. Then came a whiting double,,,,both mid 20's cms. Another double of whiting followed before I had a decent bite and this time in came a nice plump little codling of 35cms

. Fishface had a nice pollock, 30cms,,,just as well cos some friends of his arrived and he was having a hard job explaining why I was catching all the fish

After this we had more whiting, with some Dabs and even a rockling. All I got on the crab was a tiny codling of 15cms. Plenty of fish for a change and after spending the previous Sunday evening waiting for the rodtips to twitch,,,it was great to see them nodding away all night,,,,roll on next week
