Time -7:30pm to 10:30pm
Baits - lug, rag, sandeel, whiting
Fish - LSD, mackerel, pout, poor cod, whiting, dab, codling
We were supposed to go to Cushendun to practice for a match but arrived to find the beach in a horrible mess - literally more weed than water.
Said no to that and shifted marks on to some nearby concrete. Despite clement forecast, p1ss rain and wind was the order of the night but it didn't dampen our spirits, especially with me in my new wet gear.
Bites were constant from the off. The BiL had a doggie 1st cast, nooooo! Luckily that was the only one. Unfortunately, given we'd set out for match practice, we only had scratching rigs and smallish worm baits. That was always going to make it hard to get through the pinfish but at least the species were varied.
A few minutes later, my rod fell from the tripod and the gripper broke out. It was too close in to be a doggie so I got a bit excited. Turned out to be a good sized mack that had taken a static lug bait. That's a first but I guess they'll eat anything. I wasn't disappointed to see it either and have in fact just wolfed it.
Anyway, not much else of note. No takable codling but the average size is bigger than last year. I'll have some bigger baits and hooks next time to tackle a better stamp of fish.
