Myself and Johnny thought we'd make the most of the fine weather and big tide and see if we could find a few bass or codling.
Johnny was driving so bait was my job, I was working till 4.30 so afterwards I picked up a few crab and some rag off Ruairi in swords and made tracks for home.
Got to my house and Johnny was sitting in the driveway, you'd swear fishing was easy he was that eager... We packed up the gear and headed for the mark.
Conditions were less than ideal but not impossible, no surf but no rain either so at least it would be a comfortable blank if it was going to be one!
Pulleys and flappers on with rag and crab and the odd strip of Mack. Fishing was very slow to start but picked up after an hour or so. Johnny was first off the mark with an elusive east coast codling about 30cm, then another one.. We could be onto something here! I picked up a flounder/rockling double in the wash and the tone was set for the night. Very busy session with lots of codling, maybe 20 coming in. Johnny had the best one of the night, 42cm. We had rockling, flounder and codling, no bass but I did have a bonus of dodging an eel! Took in my rig with the snood in a tangle and covered in slime, I don't mind eels but the job I have unhooking them is comical. Most the fish were on rag with only a couple of codling taking crab. Great session for the east coast, no weed, no rain and kept busy.
