People: myself

Duration: 8am to 12pm

Tide: high at 9.30

Weather:overcast and moderate sw breeze

Bait: mackerel, sand eel and squid

Rigs:sliding float

Results: 2 pollack and a dozen baby pollack

Report: Left home at 5.30 to try and get the best of the tide. Arrived at 8 and there was already a few lads fishing for mackerel. I chose a high up spot to set up because I didn't want to be surrounded by mack bashers when the tide came in. A few showed up but I only saw them catch the odd mack here and there. Things started slow with my bait being nibbled of the hook every few minutes as expected. Next thing the float took a dive and I hooked into a decent Pollack. Definitely my biggest yet, I'd hazard a guess of 6 or 7 lbs. Didnt get a chance to weigh it though as you can probably guess. My high up mark was a risk as I knew before hand and it cost me a good fish this time. I had a very long 50 lb leader on because I knew there was a good chance of having to hand line in any decent fish I might get. A bit of luck and I had him, he was around 5 feet below my feet when a sharp rock robbed me of my catch by cutting through my 14lb hook length. Ah well that's the chance you take and better luck next time. Next time was about an hour later when I hooked into and this time landed a nice 3lb pollack.
Delighted and with not much time left I decided to leave the big boys be and see who was nibbling my bait. I had brought a small rod and float set up and a tiny hook with a 1 cent coin size of mackerel bait on it. No sooner than it hit the water the float was disappearing and up came one juvenile pollack after another. All returned bar one who slipped out of my hand, hit a rock and went belly up before a gull got a handy mouthfull.
