People: just me
Duration:90 mins
Tide: dropping from high
Weather: stiff easterly, few showers
Bait: bread flake, mashed bread groundbait
Rigs: waggler rig
Results: my first ever mullet
Report: hit my local tidal river for an afternoon session to see if i could tempt my first ever mullet. got there to see no fish in the river, but after mashing some fresh white bread and introducing a few balls of the resulting slop, they soon showed up in good numbers. more groundbait went in and they started getting their heads down and feeding, and i finally got my first mullet take, which i duly missed. this happened a few more times, and i decided to scale down the size of bait. next cast i had a take, and finally connected. the fish splashed for abouyt 25 seconds before waking up and getting ANGRY, and an epic tussle ensued. after about 5 minutes and half a dozen attempts to net it, it was finally in the net in front of me. no weight, just a quick photo and away it went.
great to get my first mullet. thick lipped grey i believe it was.
