Date:
21 Jan 2006

Duration:
14:30 to 17:30

Tide:
LW @ ~4:30pm

Weather:
Calm, clear and mild, no wind

Bait:
Frozen black lug and fresh commons

Rigs:
4/0 pennell pullley

Results:
Lots and lots of codling but 6 keepers all between 2lbs+ & 3lbs+

Report:
All the better fish seemed to be at range today. Plenty of activity, bar maybe half and hour around low water no cast was out there for more than 10 mins before a fish a gobbled it up. Had heard that alot of the small fish had disappeared but they seemed to be back in numbers.
Great day out and it was such a short session too

Are there any trends on the wall with regard to fishing.. ie: better or worse in, big tides, or better high or low water....

Viper,

Here's a few generalisations:

The grassy patch and along the wall here tend to fish bettter during daylight. In fact I'd go so far as to say they don't fish well at all during darkness if after cod. Try further down at the pier in monkstwon.

Low water produces more fish than high. We imagine the reason for this is simply at LW the fish aren't as spread out around the harbour.

Springs/neaps... On small neaps you might get away with fishing a full tide but really it's over slack water people target the wall. Neaps obviously will be more comfortable and give you a bit more fishing time
