Kerry Bass

Tue Apr 29, 2014 9:52 am

People: Art/Eamon

Duration: 2 hours

Tide: Rising

Weather: wamr

Bait: various lures

Report:

So just a quick report. My Brother in law is in Kerry until Thursday until the serious bass men join him....cough...
But after ariving yesterday afternoon, in the glorious Kerry sunshine he decided to walk over to one of our marks with 2 hours left til high water. Not a great time to fish this mark as the Bass have usually long since passed and gone into the estuary to feed, but he wanted to wet a line and test out his brand new Illex. 20 Mins in this little pup stopped the lure in its tracks. Art said he was shocked more than anything. Great little scrap, quick pic and returned. Over the next 2 or so hours he had a number of follows as well as a few rattles he suspects may have been sea trout as a number were jumping. He also saw a shoal of trout passing right under their feet, about 12 fish to 3Ib mark, as well as various shoals of mullet. Gannets and terns working and plenty of baitfish.
All in all a good recon session and evidence that the bass are falling to lures more and more. I will update this thread over the next 2 days and then start a new one for my weekend from Thur til Monday. Very optimistic. Night time could be great if these guys are buzzing about during the day.

Nice Bass, Henry Gilbey has had some nice Bass down in Kerry this week.
It's looking like a good year for them.

They have only had a few and nothing of any size, yet. Too early to say wether this will be a good year. Hoping it is as I have noticed the numbers/sizes gradually decreasing over the years I have fished the exact same area. Heres hoping to a gud un for everybody.

Saw that, nice fish! How was it fishing with John and Henry? Fishing was tough for us, will post a report tomorrow if I get time.

Wasn't fishing with HG, if that's who you mean. He's left the day before we arrived.

The work rate by John was absolutely phenomenal. He left out no effort in his search for Bass for us. Day two, yesterday, was a wide variety of marks and tactics in an effort to locate the fish. SP, metals, hard plastics, clean sand, estuaries, open beaches, rocks, mixed ground - all failed to get a hit. Eventually, not to give in without playing all the cards in his hand, we hit a beach at night with bait.

My jammy pal, his first two casts and he had two Bass..............

Well I don't feel so bad now. We fished from dawn well into Darkness each day with lures. If John Q found it tough what chance do the rest of us have! Saw so many fish but fook me they didn't give a stuff about lures!
