Was hoping the Waterford coastal rock marks would produce fish this weekend so i set off at 5 this morning to a favorite mark. I fished it till an hour after high tide but not even a sniff of a fish. After that i figured my best shot of a fish would be where the water was a little warmer, so i headed for an estuary mark to fish up to low water.
Things looked really good when i arrived. The tide was running nice and strong and i could actually see some bass sitting right on the border of the current and the calmer water. Plenty of small sea trout were jumping as well.
I decided to start with metal spinners, casting out beyond the fish and retrieving through the current to the stiller water. After about 20 mins without any interest i decided to change things up and opted for a pollock colour in the SF-125. I cast right where the current met the still, counted to 20 , gave a couple of turns of the handle and paused, then began a steady retrieve. I repeated this two more times and then ..... BANG ... Fish on!
After making about a dozen or so unsuccessful outings it felt really good to FINALLY have a nice Bass on. My first fish for 2014, a good healthy 43cm Bass.
