Duration: Way too long...

Tide: High then low!

Weather: Fair bit of a breeze (especially the pier!) and a few showers.

Bait: Rag, Mack, Frozen crab.

Rigs: Lots

Results: Codling, Rockling, Eel of some sort, Pouting, Whiting,




Report: Had fished Corbawn lane in day light about a fortnight ago an had four small codling in an hours fishing, decided it would be worth a shot heading back and fishing the mark in darkness. Got set up around 18.30 and planned on fishing this mark until the early hours but weed became a problem straight away. Started fishing a 3 hook flapper about 15/20 yards out with rag and mack and threw a rotten bottom crab pulley right out into the rough stuff.
Had two small codling on the flapper before light faded and not a tip on the crab. Next fish I hooked into on the rag again turned out to be an eel that made a right mess of my trace! Not sure but I think due to the ground I was fishing it was a strap conger?? Fishing started too become very uncomfortable as the weed was coming in huge stalks and nearly dragging the rods into the water on occasion that along with the tide pushing me way back up on the rocks made me decided a change of location. Had a rockling and another codling before I finally hit the road headed for Greystones pier.
Got to Greystones to find a fair few fishing so I found a spot fishing into the mouth of the harbour. 5mins after baits were in the water was into a pouting/whiting double, was kept busy for the rest of the night with whiting and one lone rockling. Was trying for a few dogs at distance as a few of the lads there had caught a few but the whiting were taking every bait even a 3/0 with a big side of mack!
All in all was an enjoyable night with a few fish to keep me on my toes.
Will definitely going back to Corbawn lane for round two when there's no weed, looks like a very promising mark.

Probably is John,wouldn't know a common eel to see. Honestly I didn't even know they could be caught from the beech until I pulled that in

you will get them alright had some crackers near enough to there last year

Plenty of that stretch I am yet to fish,gonna put a bit more time into it in the warmer months

Cheers Paul,pain in the arse having to move marks but even a few pin whiting makes it worth while. (Well they're better than a blank )

Deffo a common eel due to the fact he made a hash of your trace

Yep a fresh water eel. Could be on his way to the Saragossa sea or returning home

I know you are involved in the Cork small boats festival donal, why are the eels still allowed to be targeted and counted in this comp when they are procted by law, im sure the same question should apply to the rosslare small boats aswell.

I know you are involved in the Cork small boats festival donal, .

My only involvement is I sit behind a desk and input the species and weight that are called out to me. I have no other input into the way the competition is run. In the end of the day I hit "Ctrl +S" and go home.

You might get Jim to answer why the are recorded
