Antrim Rock Mark 23/03/14

Mon Mar 24, 2014 6:17 pm

People:

Duration: 3pm - 9:30pm

Tide: High down to none

Weather: Calm, dry, bright during day

Bait: fresh black lug, king rag, squid

Rigs: 2 up clipped, 2u / 1d flapping

Results: Codling, plaice, 3bd rockling, 5bd rockling, coley, flounder

Report:

After a bad couple of recent sessions, 2 of us got to the mark around 3pm HT with little optimism. Didn't rate our chances on a falling tide but with work, this was the only opportunity.

My friend got set up first and had a couple of casts close in with no luck. That led me to thump both my rods as far as I could. I'd rarely do that with both rods bit it seemed to pay off this time.

Had a couple of small plaice in the day time but generally slow. Never really took off but was steady come dark with the highlight being a codling of 2lb. I stuck to the cocktail baits, small ones at that which appeared more effective for some reason.

Anyway, a good few fish, mixture of species and a welcome codling, great day all-in-all.
