Good size coalie! The cod have quietened down a bit lately, think all this bad weather has upset them, a lot of fresh water in the river

4 lb coalfish from the shore is a great catch.

That's an understatement - there is a torrent of fresh water coming down the Blackwater along with a huge amount of debris; branches, trees, logs, not to mention weed. All that fresh water will have pushed the cod well out into the bay - that's probably the end of it as regards cod fishing until next winter. I doubt there will be a late run unless we get a period of more settled dry cold weather in the next week or so.

Totally agree, no sign of the weather going to settle anytime soon! It'll be a shame if thats the end of our cod season, very short and sweet.

Unfortunately once they move out of the harbour/estuary then that is usually the end of it. Same happened last year - there was good fishing in the first couple of weeks of January then we had some wet weather and the flood water pushed the cod out, they never returned. Sure a few small codling of a pound or so could be picked up but the main shoal was gone. After that the only decent fish I had above 2 lbs were from Ballycotton bay
