Report: With herself out of action for the last week with the flu, I didnt get the chance to get out

. The weathers been brutal lately so with a gap in the weather forecast for Sunday I got some frozen bait in case I got the chance to get out. Fishface was otherwise engaged so I headed out to Greystones on my own. Well not entirely alone as for the last few weeks I've travelled everywhere with this little guy

He usually stays in my van to keep an eye on her, but on occassion I cut him some slack and this was one of those occassions, so with the van safely in view I brought him down the pier with me and we set up. We set up one rod each and I cast out a two hook flapper baited with mack and frozen lug, with Santy casting similar baited with sandeel and lug. I was first in with a chunky Shore Rockling , 30 cms, happy days.

It was cold but surprisingly calm and as we were both well wrapped up it was comfortable fishing for the few hours we were there

Santy was especially warm in his thermal suit which he said was designed for much colder Polar weather. I had a couple of small pollock, some pouting and two pollock and was feeling well pleased with myself but Santy was feeling a bit down and with a busy night ahead of him in a couple of days time I told him to sit down and relax for a while while I baited up his rod for him.

.
I was getting a bit anxious for him 'cos as you all know it's a bit nerve wracking when you bring someone to one of your marks

You desperately want them to catch , so I put on some crab on Santy's rod and hoped for the best. He watched the rod-tip anxiously as it danced in the breeze

I noticed the tip moving out of step with the wind and called out ,, "You're in, Santy

", and after a small struggle he landed a nice little rockling

With Santy on the scoreboard,,,that took was the pressure off me ,,, so I could concentrate on whipping his ass,,,but he turned the tables on me and just kept pulling in fish after fish,,,pouting , pollock and more rockling and finished up with a double of whiting and rockling

Of all the baits the mack was best , but the sandeel and crab worked too. The frozen lug didnt attract anything on it's own, but then it's usually reserved for flatties. All in all it was a good night, plenty of fish and looking out today I'm glad I went last night. Hopefully Santy is hooked for life now

,,,but I wont be bringing him with me any more, he can stay in the van from now on,,,,at least until tomorrow night when he has to head off

I have to say he was great company and very quiet, not like my last fishing partner

. Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes for 2014, Dave
