People: Myself

Duration: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Tide: high tide 6pm

Weather: Fresh westerly

Bait: frozen mackerel

Rigs: 2 hook paternoster

Results: blank

Took boat out for a spin on a flat flat calm Galway Bay on Sunday. Caught 5 mackeral. Decided to freeze them for bait.
Headed out to Spiddal pier this evening. One hour in I got a nice bite but failed to hook up.
Nothing else but nice to ne out.
Any info as when this venue fishes best over the winter would be greatly appreciated.
Also, is frozen Mack worth sticking with?
All advice greatly appreciated!

Howdy, I find it fishes best with high tide a couple of hours after dark, with doggies pouting and poorcod being the main species this time of year, and if your lucky codling, collie and whiting making the odd appearance.

And yes mackerel is probably the best bait in the bay, try tipping it with squid too, or squid tipped with mackerel
