Tide: HW 22.00
Weather: Flat Calm
Time: 5 till 8
Bait: mack and black lug
Fancied a session but work is hectic at the moment so decided on a local mark as just don't have the time to travel.
Fished two rods with three hook flappers with size 1's on one rig and 1/0's on the other.
Well from 1st cast to last I got doubles and treble whiting/codling/coalfish all evening long.
No decent size fish but non stop all evening.

Well done, a few fish to beat the blank.
Just wondering, would juvenile white fish be any good for pike bait?

Sometimes you have to settle for quantity, not quality. It beats getting neither!

Yeah I was more than happy with the result as I've never bait fished there before. I'll definitely try it again.

I've heard of people using them but I wouldn't think they would have as much oil or scent as mackerel tails, smelt etc.

have used them sand eel joey macks and herring
find fresh herring the best sea fish for pike fished on the float or static bit soft for sink and draw all will work inject with bit of fish oil for added attraction in the colder months

Earliest fishing memory is of a guy on the old, wooden, Bangor Pier, taking wee whiting to use as live bait for pike. He was using barbless size 12 hooks and maggots as bait. Totally blew everybody's minds back in the late 70s. Lol

those hoards of small whiting can eat through your bait supplies in a short time when they are feeding hard like that man.
but it sure beats watching motionless rod tips any day

Thinking of going back Sunday night.
