Greystones Harbour 16th Nov '13

Sun Nov 17, 2013 2:06 pm

People:me and Neil

Duration:7pm - 11-30pm

Tide:Rising

Weather:Mild November evening

Bait:lug, mack, squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:codling, pollock, whiting, scorpion fish, shore rockling, Dabs, pouting

Report:Saturday evening brought me on yet another trip to Greystones Harbour. One of these evenings I might venture further out to one of the beaches with the beachcasters and the tripods etc etc,, but not just yet  My last few beach trips have been either blanks or pin whiting hunts. I saw a few lights on the North Beach in Greystones last night,,,,,but there's not much space left when the tide comes in and I noticed the lights disappeared coming up to high tide. Myself and Fishface surprisingly had the Harbour to ourselves for the early part of the night,,until two nice Polish lads arrived from Brittas Bay to further confirm that the beaches were crap  . I started the ball rolling with a small codling and kept ahead of Neil for most of the night until he hit a patch of sand that was alive with Dabs  . As per usual , it was a tackle graveyard and everyone present lost rigs,,,,,myself losing 3  ,,,but I was repaid with some nice pollock, shore rockling and a Scorpion fish with a massive head on him  . Also some small codling and some medium ones (for the East Coast  ) with whiting and pouting adding to the mix. I promised Neil that i'd mention that apart from one decent sized Dab,,,,,all of his fish were small  whereas mine were all decent sized  . I got a lovely pollock/Scorpion fish double that really put a bend in my light rod  . The hardest job of the night was managing to put the decent sized lug I had brought onto the small hooks without bursting them   . I also tried some rigs with chemical lights attached to see if they made any difference and I can report that they did,,,,I caught less fish on them ,,,,but they looked very pretty  I lost a couple of nice fish in the rocks ,,possibly cod but more likely decent sized rockling. We headed off home at 11-30pm after a good nights fishing and I gave the 2 lads the rest of my lug,,,hope they caught a few fish with them.

since dave forgot to mention the fact that he was slagging me when he had more fish than me I went into comp mode as it is the norm with us that the most fish wins the night and the winner gets a towel alright he had bigger fish than me but I had more, so there, one of my dabs was a good takehome size so I gave it to one of the polish lads, did anyone notice that our man dave did not take a photo of it, I reacon it was well into the 30s and really really thick and really heavy, but all in all it was not a bad nights fishing around 20 fish landed by us both :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Don't exaggerate  ,,,, If it was HUGE you would have made me take a pic of it  It was roughly late twenties,,,,30cms at a push,,,,,as I said,,,DECENT,,,,,,,,,,,not HUGE  . I also forgot to mention that I actually thought at one stage that I'd get ONE session without having to listen to the much repeated tales of Greystones past glory,,,,but then a dogwalker and fellow angler (Ken) from Greystones dropped by and started looking back through the rose tinted spectacles and started Fishface off,,,,,,,,,,AGAIN   . Compared to the dustbin lid sized plaice they were going on about catching back in the day in Greystones I would have thought that Dab he caught was a tiddler
