Report: We fished the first session Thursday night. It started off slow enough with only a few whiting and codling to 35 cm showing. Around 2 hours before high water Antoine had the first of the Ray; a fish of 3lb which fell to fresh peeler. Soon after that another angler further up the beach had a 13lb Ray; D2 obligingly signed his specimen card and verified the weight. No sooner had that fish been returned and D2 had a nice Ray just under 10lb. No Ray for myself the first session but was a pleasure to see some cracking fish landed.
Second session we returned to the same mark armed with some fresh peeler we got from Cortaz (cheers Arthur). The fishing started off the same as the previous evening; with Coalies to 45 cm, Whiting to 38cm and Codling to 45 cm being landed, interspersed with the odd Flounder and Dogfish. Right on Q, around 2 hours before high water the first of the Rays appeared. I had a nice Ray of 8.5lb. Not long after that D2 had the best fish of the trip, a beaut of a Ray; the Bro's first specimen of the year weighing in at 11lb 2 oz.
We did fish a couple of hours at Ferrypoint Friday afternoon. A few nice Coalies and small Codling for our troubles. Had a nice chat and a few laughs with a couple of anglers from Dublin (hope ye got a few Ray later lads). All in all it was a productive trip with the Bro landing his first specimen of the year, Antoine landing his first ever Ray and a new PB Ray for myself.
Fresh peeler was the bait of choice; although some of the Codling and Whiting were landed on Razor and the odd one falling to Lug. Incidentally the best fish of the trip was taken on frozen peeler, as was the best Codling and Whiting
