Report:
I hadn't been out for a couple of weeks as I had been squeezing the last dregs out of the trout season. I got down just a little late and had to rush to dig a few lug which unfortunately turned out to be plenty. The sea was flat calm with little or no wind, the sky was cloudless and the moon, though not full, was very bright so expectations were not high. However I set up 2 rods and cast one far and one close. No bites for a while but the hooks came polished clean each time so the crabs were doing well. Eventually, around high tide, a couple of slight knocks on the far rod translated into a small codling. In the next hour it was followed by 3 more with the biggest barely making 23cm. No interest in the mackerel bait, not even a rockling. Not exactly Waterford or Youghal but as near as I get to a cod run!
