latest catches

People:various

Duration:

Tide:all

Weather:mixed

Bait:mainly macky and sandeel

Rigs:asstd.

Results:Mark Gorton and Steve Escott swapped the flat beaches and shallow seas of Norfolk for the deep waters and rock ledges of the Beara for their annual trip. This year was very successful as they caught 102 fish (not counting mackerel and doggies) during the weeks holiday. The best of these included 18 ray to 10.5 lbs, conger to 11 lbs, pollack to 6 lbs and huss to 9 lbs.
Richard Garvey was down from Dublin and had a few excellent sessions. Plenty of pollack fell to his lures with one memorable session resulting in 60 fish to double figures with sadly the best fish estimated to be in the region of 14 lbs lost at the side of the rocks when the landing net was out of reach. He also caught specimen sized wrasse to 5 lbs on hard back crabs and some lure caught bass to 6.5 lbs.
Graeme Pullen from the Totally Awesome Fishing Show was over for a few days and once again the curse of the camera struck and our lovely mild, dry weather turned wet, windy and very unfriendly for both cameraman and fisherman. Despite this we caught some nice rays and pollack and with the last day scheduled for boat fishing for trout the sun came out and the wind vanished leaving us praying for a bit of wind. There is no doubt cameras have a knack of changing all weather for the worst when fishing.
Martin. John and Andy form the UK were on their first visit to the Beara and during their short stay managed to break Martins duck for a shore caught conger and Johns for a shore caught Huss. They have promised to return for a longer stay next time.

Pushed the wrong button for the picture as it should have been a ray. The pollack was caught ny Mark Noble last month. One of several double figure fish he caught.

Well done that man, smashing beast of a Pollock, any man would be happy with that from a boat, it is the fish of a lifetime from the shore. Any sign of Cod down that way this year, I remember you telling about some fine catches of nice Codling last year and the year before?

Did not do a lot of winter fishing last year due to a dodgy knee but the previous years had some nice codling in the 2-4 lb range. Had a big bait out each time looking for that lunker but no takers. Best bait was peeler.
On the deeper water marks some more adventurous guys have caught conger and huss through the winter, with one 8 pounder caught on Christmas day!.

Was down the same week as Mark there, weather was attrocious! Great fish, top bloke! Same with Paul there, if you're visiting the Beara make sure you stay at Dromagowlane house, you won't be disappointed, Hospitality and Guiding service second to none! Also the full Irish in the morning is to die for!!! :D
