fished belmullet for a week venues fished were portacloyx2 the beach near glosh tower and a beach I cant remember the name of all venues fished for approx 8 hrs, the fishing was very poor only managed flounder, small turbot,a couple of coalfish and dab this was on everywhere we fished what we couldn't understand is where were the rays ,dogs and sea trout, all the flats were pretty small. We also travelled down to achill and fished doogort beach and golden strand we fished these beaches 2 years ago and had pretty good results plenty of sea trout rays dogs, huss and good sized flats, this year small flats that was it so in short a pretty poor weeks fishing but the craic was great .During our stay we were trying to come up with a reason or is it just the whole area wasn't fishing or the easterly wind killed the fishing anybody got an answer or is it THATS FISHING, be back next year somewhere just a quick point we noticed that nearly all the beaches were shallow and with clear water ,maybe that's the reason
sorry that is a bit long winded thanx

hi paul, thanks for the report
Belmullet can be so hot and cold in a short space of time
conditions can look ideal and its dead
then not so promising and you have a great session - fair play on the effort
as regards achill - there were 14 angling on keem a few weeks ago and only 4 fish were caught
days on doogort where you could get 6 species and then blank
maybe you are right about the shallow beaches - but there are nearly always some features to be found

thanx for the replies just another quick question if you had to pick an area to fish in Ireland that you can target a vast variety of species,at any given time where would that place be, only asking to give us a bit of a head start for sorting out for next year

+1 for dingle some great bass fishing out in Minard, Kinard and Dún Síon. Some good pollock and wrasse off Shearach but things have slowed the last few weeks.
All in all fairly good plugging and luring this year.

been looking at some reports on the beara looks a great place to fish how easy is the access to most marks ,as we found at belmullet some of the marks were either , difficult to access or no access at all as farmers wouldn't let you thru they land
