People: myself and the two boys
Duration: about 4 hours
Tide: incoming, big 5 metre tide
Weather: not as nice as predicted, 19 C but strong SW running to force 5 or 6
Bait: mack, sandeel, razor
Rigs: various
Results: 1 mackerel
Beginning to become a bit of a habit, this single mackerel from Achill. Tried a new set of marks for me, they look great and some locals came down and set off spinning for mackerel too. Picked up the odd single one but the gannets chose another headland for their sport! Typical.
In truth the wind destroyed the day's fishing as the lads could not get more than maybe 20-30 metres out into its teeth, even with big heavy German sprats. Mack fell to a German sprat at distance, under a line of feathers off the beachcaster. Tried some bait fishing close in - it is very deep even without the tide, but (a) ground is very rough and (b) only got nibbles...
Still, it beats working! Walk there and back is a bugger. Bog, streams, dead sheep!
