Report:

First of all , Ennereilly & myself are back together again! For the last few times I fished there I was moaning about the lack of big hounds and constant doggies. So when fishing there, I always found myself always thinking about fishing other beaches and when that happens...well it's time to go your separate ways and so we did. Anyway was down in Ballymoney the Sunday previous and had a spectacular blank - ouch! Damn it, did I do the right thing? I was already having regrets but wasn't sure if the old faithful would have me back?

So yesterday evening I sheepishly arrived back to Ennereilly......I found it hard to even look in her in the eyes! I made my apologies, told her Ballymoney was a once off and didn't mean anything  Anyway we agreed to make it work, so I setup the tripod & rods. There wasn't a big a surf as I expected but still was better than the usual flat calm of late, nice colour in the water too so thought there might be some bass patrolling around.......All quiet for the first while then first up was a little thornback ray. Was a first for me so was chuffed with myself. Not long after I pulled in the obligatory doggie. Then darkness fell and I was expecting the pups to be out in force but no........no bites even :( After a long quiet spell I saw what looked to be a pup bite on the distance rod. I lifted into it and felt a good weight on the end....wasn't doing much
fighting so assumed it was a doggie....as I got her in closer she made a few powerful stops and turns so knew I had a half decent smoothie on. Landed it and I'd say it was around the 3-4lb mark. Quick measure(70cm) then put her back.....Mission accomplished so was happy out and could fish on a bit more relaxed now. Nothing else after that so headed off around 00:30.

I suppose if there is any moral to this story, it's that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.........over and out....

Steve

Fair play on the few fish and especially the thornie, I've tried for them loads of times down there and never had any. Congrats again. :)
