People: Myself, Rob M & Smack
Duration: 7:30-10:30
Tide: Flooding
Weather: Surprisingly Warm and v light breeze
Bait: Rag & Crab
Rigs: Pulley's and Paternoster
Results: 2 Flounder, 3 Bass, 12 Hound Pups, 15 Dogs
Report: So we decided to head out tonight, armed with fresh peelers and some left over rag. Target species: Some decent sized hounds. Arrived at the beach and the sea was lovely and flat, so set up and cast out, first few fish fell to Rob, a dog or two, and then the flounder, as the evening went on we all managed some pup hounds and dog's. Then my rod took a big hit and slack line, reeled like feck made contact good scrap (taught great the hounds are here) and then in the rollers appeared a lovely 4lb Bass, next cast again another Bass only a schoolie, then Rob produced another schoolie(not the targeted species). Poor oul Smack only had the one pup hound, and two crack offs so he retired early. As darkness fell the dogs began to turn up in numbers, so called it a day at that. All fish were returned safely. Hopefully in the next week or so some nice sized Hounds turn up. Have peelers waiting!!

I reckon we'd more than 15 dogs too. It felt like I had about 15 myself!

I thought it was closed season for Bass. What's the regulation if you claim they were not the targeted species?

We were fishing a venue that we caught smoothies at last year but no bass. All 3 fish were returned straight away and swam off strong. If a fisheries officer saw us fishing this beach with crab bait during the ban I really don't think there'd be a problem. As JimC mentioned in the lure forum last week, if you're caught fishing a Feed Shallow in an estuary during the ban I think you'd have a hard time explaining your case.

I was using a feed shallow in an estuary mark the other day. It was the smaller version 110?. Anyway, saw a guy catch a huge trout ledgering a large jointed savage gear pike lure. Though I'd change tactics from using 8gr casting jigs. Would have been bang to rights if an officer came along

You'd be going straight to jail Rory. You would not be passing GO and collecting £200 either!!!!

There is a closed season for bass from the 15th of May to the 15th of June each year. If you accidentally catch a bass during this period, just return him alive to the sea. Which is exactly
what we did.
