People: Me
Duration: 23:30 to 02:30
Tide: over high tide
Weather:Lovely warm night
Bait: mack, rag
Rigs:3 hook flappers and pulley
Results: Dogs, whiting, rockling, plaice, poor cod, lobster
Report: Decided on a quick session to Greystones as the weather was so nice, got there about 23:30 to find 3 lads fishing. Quick chat found out dogs, plaice and whiting about happy days set up one rod and lashed it out with pulley baited with mack set the clutch and set up other rod 3 hook flapper just down the wall, after a quite half an hour things picked up with whiting, rockling and poor cod on the close rod and dogs on the far one. Next thing i knew the far rod doubled over reeled in to find a massive weight on thought it must have being a big ball of weed but after a 5 min struggle got it to the wall. I didnt even attempt to haul it up the wall instead i climbed up and looked down as i was holding the shock leader to see a bloody monster of a lobster on the end of the line, no choice but to try hand line him up, got him bout 5 ft out of the water when he came off sickened. So baited up again and in the middle of baiting up looked up to a scraping sound to see my tripod, rod and reel heading for the wall made a dive for it but too late rod and reel gone. Grabbed the other rod with gripper to try to snag it just about to cast seen the line had gotten under the spool 2 mins wasted fixing it up looked into water seen the lumi tip of the rod bout 50 yards out heading out to sea just about to cast for it when batteries went dead on my headtorch tried a few cast anyway with no results, quick change of batteries and quick look into the sea again no sign of it ( if anyone finds a ziplex bass rod and penn surfblaster reel floating around you know who owns it) Would have loved to know what took it but your guess is as good as mine, also learned even if your just scratching its a good idea to set the clutch just in case

That's bad but at least you weren't to blame. I on the other hand, about two years ago was fishing two rods off a local rock mark. I had reeled in my 13ft rod with the penn mag on it after catching a postage stamp dab. As i was attending to the the dab I had a knock on the 15 footer and reeled that in and unhooked a pin whiting. The bait was still fresh so I turned to cast the 15 footer with 8oz weight back out and in mid cast i felt a heavy weight on the line and turned to see my 13 footer, penn mag, 6oz gripper and postage stamp dab flying over my head and out into the channel. Luckily after a long time i managed to pull the rod and all back up the rocks to find the top section of the rod was snapped. The dab on the other hand was fine and had a good story to tell his mates.
