Helvic Pier Co Waterford - Sunday the 18th Dec 2005

Mon Dec 19, 2005 2:14 pm

People:Myself

Duration: 3.15 to 6.00pm

Tide: 4.0M FT @ ~7.00pm

Weather: Light Breeze Westerly (Nearly all the time!!!)

Bait: crab, mackeral, razor

Rigs: 2 hook booms (1/0 & 2/0), Pennels 3/0 & 2 Hook ups 1/0

Results: 2 coddling (2.5 & 2.0lb) 16 Coalies over between 30-40cm.
Decided to avoid Youghal as the small fish have moved in on mass. Fished from the corner of the pier (not a user friendly pier for bottom fishing). Had the two coddling on the first two casts but the wind changed slightly before darkness and the coalies moved in. The baits were been hit withing a couple of mins by the coalies so it gave little chance if any more coddling were about. Overall a nice days fishing. Just before 6.00 a mini gale blew as I was casting, which seen my 6 oz lead which was heading seaward come back and land on the pier to my right. This was accompanied by a large swell with spray going about 20ft over the pier. It had died down within mins but thank god I did not venture on any rock marks.
