Wanted to try the rocks in Greystones as I hadn't fished them this year ,only the harbour, so I headed out a bit earlier than I normally would to take advantage of the sunny skies. On arrival in Greystones , I headed into Gotcha Angling to collect my bait and have a nosey around. Stephen was most helpful and I also bought some nice shiny small beads which caught my eye,,,,and reasoned that if they had caught my attention, they would surely also attract some inquisitive fish

. The weights were also priced nicely so I got a couple,,,,,and I couldn't resist some leader at €3-95 for 50 metres,,,,,,i'm sorry I didn't buy some more as it seems quite good,,,,I made a few rigs with it and also used it to tie on a new leader last night and it was handy enough

Fladen Warbird,nice and supple

.
I headed around the corner to the rocks to see a fine thing using up my prime fishing location to read a book

. Not to worry though ,,,, not being shy I motored down and set up and as I guessed, the sight of a couple of wriggling worms being impaled on my size 4's ,,,,together with the accompanying blood and guts special effects,,,,,was enough to send her scurrying back to the safety of the roadside benches

. I didn't even have to tell her about the rats that frequent this site

. I set up my two rods and sent out the bait but no joy for the first hour or so

. I had caught a wrasse in the Harbour last week and thought I might get a few here but twas not to be

A couple of lads set up near me and the three of us had a good chat,,,Myworldfishing off the site and his mate. Finally I managed a small flounder,,,,followed by a bigger one at 25cms

,,,and a small dab,,,,,all out 40/50 yds. Some mackbashers arrived and it didnt take long for him to cross me but in fairness it only happened once. I eventually started to get some nibbles in close but lost a couple of rigs to the snags. Finally I managed to winkle out a Blenny,,,,,,my target species and i'm a bit embarassed at the joy I displayed on landing him,,,,,,,especially as when I looked at the piccie when I got home it was just a really small shore rockling

. As always, it's a nice place to be on a nice evening so I was happy enough with the few fish I caught,,,,,,,especially when Fishface rang from deepest Wexford with the news of his Bla,,,,,no,,,,I can't say it ,,,,I promised him I wouldn't mention his Blank

Results:8 x pollock, 1 x corkwing wrasse, 1 x codling, 1 x pouting, 1 x Shore rockling
I still had 40 rag and a peeler left on Sunday so I made a few rigs and headed to Greystones Harbour. My dilemma was that I had come to the conclusion that this fishes best from low tide up and dies off coming up to High water for a few hours,,,,,so it wouldn't be the best place to go tonight

,,,,,also Fishface was heading to Ennereilly for Big fish

What would I do

After much soul searching I decided to ignore my previous experiences on the Harbour and rely on the auld "You never know what 's out there" theory instead

. I got there around 7pm to the news that there wasn't much about. I set up 2 rods and as usual got snagged on my first cast

Much like Wicklow Harbour, there seems to be a line of lines all along the bottom of the wall , handy for getting snagged

. I cast a bit further out from the wall next time and I was ok. My other rod was out 50yds or so in the mouth of the Harbour. It was a really beautiful evening , nice sunset , and thankfully it wasn't long before my first fish , a small pollock 20 cms or so,,,and on my new rig with Gotcha's beads

I had another small pollock a few minutes later,,,,,then I lobbed a bait over towards the other pier,,,which landed a couple of yards from it and bang,,,,it was hit by a Corkwing wrasse straight away

The fishing continued like this for the rest of the evening,,,,a pollock here and there ,,,enough to keep the interest,,,in between I took a few photos of the sunset,,, but no camera could do it justice in fairness,,,,especially mine

Fishface phoned to fill me in on his Bla,,,,I mean to tell me that thing's weren't going too well further South,,,,,the sea was a lot rougher down there seemingly

. I told him things were good here ,,a few fish being caught ,,,then told him I had to go as "there's another bite

". I had a good bite on my farthest rod out in the Harbour mouth , and thought it was a Doggie,,,,, but it was in fact a decent Shore rockling

. This was followed by a nice Pouting.

Of course I sent Fishface a few piccies of the fish to cheer him up and also thanked him for giving me the idea to come here,,,,if only he had taken his own advice
Things went a bit quiet for a while but some Eastern European guys and gals got a doggie and some half decent pollock. I still had my rig out with the magic beads, baited with rag, and was hoping for something decent before I went home when Bang,,,,,,the rod tip dipped and I eased into a Nodder,,,I lifted into him and he was pulling back all the way up . Now I know they seem better on a small rod, which is why I use them here, but this guy gave a good account of himself. Though only in the low 30's,,,,, he was unbelievably fat,,,a Codling version of Buddha

It was 11pm now at this stage and I was late to pick up the Missus,,,,so I packed up ,,donated my leftover rag to promote good International relations and left. As I waited in Bray for herself,,,,I just had time to send the pic of the codling to Fishface,,,,,,,who i'm sure was well tucked up in bed getting his well needed beauty sleep and trying to get over another Bl,,,,,I mean another rather poor session,,,,,,but it'll be a nice surprise for him when he gets up in the morning
