People: Myself:
Duration: 11am -1pm:
Tide: ebbing tide:
Weather: Dry and sunny with some light wind:
Bait: Black Lug, Mackerel, Sandeel:
Rigs: Flappers, Running Leger:
Results: Flounder X 2:
As I had lots of bait left over from the night before I decided to venture to a South Dublin beach to see if I could once again rectify the spell of blanks that I had been having. I cast one rod out far and one close to cover more ground. My size 1 flappers and slightly larger running ledger went unnoticed for a few cast and retrieves so I rebaited and tried again. On what was probably the last cast of the day I had nearly resigned myself to six blanks in a row and was about to fire all my fishing gear into the tide and retire I finally managed not one but two fish. Two lovely little flounder. The larger on was 23cm so not too big but a fish none the less. My bad spell was officially over and I was absolutely delighted.:

Good man Sean, scale down your hooks to size 4 and small neater baits should see an improvement in your flat catches too,

well done, no better feeling than the dreaded blanking is now a past experience. Refine your end tackle as Keith has suggested and every future trip should yield positive results. Don't be shy to experiment with your choice of bait either, the best bait can be sometimes picked up for free directly under your feet. Have an open eye and sharpen your feel of your natural surroundings. You'll soon find out where fish are congregating for food and what is on offer naturally to them. Everyone blanks but see this as a future lesson. You will develop a natural feel for it over time. No master has ever been dropped from the heavens, the only secret is determination and the ability to analyse and learn from experiences made. Tight lines!
