Report:Hit the road on a spur of the moment trip yesterday morning. Got to the first mark and my mate was in to a fish first with a 1 1/2lb trout on a mini xlayer. I fished a giant xlayer for an hour without a touch so I stuck on a pink duo press bait and trew it out. I hit a fish on the second sink and draw that turned out to be a trout of around 2 1/2lb. Released the fish and cast out again, the bait had only hit the water when I got hit again, this was a better fish and was stripping line at distance. The fish jumped out of the water and threw the hook, don't know how cause it was a decoy single hook. What made it worse was the lure that had tempted two fish in two casts got snagged nearly at my feet, I filled my waders trying to get it back but it was a lost cause. We fished several different marks during the day in perfect conditions with crystal clear water and birds working in close without a touch of a fish with only a few very expensive lures lost for our troubles. Arrived at the last mark of the day as light was starting to fade. My mate hit a fish after around 30mins fishing, a very welcomed schoolie of around 2lbs on a feed shallow. Feed shallow on so! My mate lost another fish in close which made me even more optimistic. At last I hit in to a fish, my first lure caught bass of 3.85lbs on a feed shallow. All the failed trips, blanks and lost lures were now forgotten! We fished on in to darkness but had no more takes. Already planning the next trip!
